I have a couple of restaurants running Aloha that use Epson U200 serial printers in the kitchen. A couple of printers have gone bad. I have sent them Epson U220 serial printers to replace them with, but they will not work. We are using serial to RJ45 adapters. Any ideas?

Check the printer setup under hardware. The old ones may have been setup as tm300's. Also check the switches in the bottom.

Now I am pretty sure it is in the wiring. I hooked one up with a regular null modem cable and it seems to work fine. I believe the current connectors only have 4 pins. Do the U220 printers require more pins than the U200? If so do you have a wiring diagram?

If you received your printers from radiant the switchs are set.
If you you brought them from somewhere else you need to check switch settings.
I think its 9600,8,1,E
Turn off printer hold down form feed and turn on.
It should print a self test configuration sheet.

Here are the dip switch settings:
DSW1 should have following turned on: 3,5,6 all others shut off.
DSW2 all should be shut off unless it is autocut. If that is the case the 2 would be the only one turned on.

All of the dip switches are set correctly.

What do you mean not working. What errors are coming up. Does it just advance paper line by line? What about the power supplies. Were those changed out as well?

When orders are sent to the printer, nothing prints. Power supplies were changed out. Self test prints fine.

Does Aloha say the printers are offline, not communicating, or are there no errors at all? Depending on what the answer to this is, it will make a big difference in the troubleshooting method.

Aloha reports the printers as not communicating.

Have you compared the self test data? If all this is correct it will end up being the connectors. Also, found out the hard way that Epson changed something in their firm ware on new printers. Problems were not discovered in Aloha setups but on other POS products.

Didn't you say in your second post it prints fine with a short null modem cable? Then it is your wiring. Order both end adapters the 25pin and the 9pin from your dealer and test that.
