Anybody know how much Chinese you can use on Aloha TS? I need to change some of the buttons on the FOH terminals. I'm NOT going to use bitmaps or create a panel.
There used to be a method with a 3rd party package and I heard guys in Australia were doing it but don't know any details.

Hope this helps:

The Aloha application software supports Chinese characters providing the printer firmware supports Chinese characters. Contact the printer manufacturer to verify compatibility.

In order to print Chinese characters from the Aloha application software, you must set the SKIPMAPSTAR variable in the ALOHA.INI to TRUE (for example, SKIPMAPSTAR=TRUE).

If you are not using a Chinese version of Microsoft® Windows®, you can consider using NJStar Communicator from NJStar Software ( to assist you with generating Chinese text. As you type into Aloha Manager, NJStar will display the Chinese characters (if any are associated with the keys) along the bottom of the screen. You can select the appropriate character and NJStar will insert that character into Aloha Manager.

The NJStar software outputs a variety of character codes. Ensure that you select character codes that are supported by your printer's firmware.

The Aloha application software supports 15 characters in an item's Chit Name field, but since Unicode requires two bytes per character, you are limited to seven Unicode (and thus Chinese) characters. Exceeding seven charters might result in unreadable text.

I'm more interested in changing the button text on the hard-coded keys such as 'Close', 'Split', etc.
The item, mods, submods are not a problem.
