Hi People!

Guess what... I need some help with my ALOHA POS System. Firstly some information:
Number of Terms 3 (O/s Win98)
BOH Server (Win2K)
Network Connectivity: Fine. Communications both ways (Term -> server and vice versa)

Problem: The Server started rebooting itself in a loop without being able to register a station name so I put Term2 as fileserver and went on. Now, I cannot Recover filserver and I am in the last 4 days :( There is no reaction on the terminals when I try and no error messages on the server telling me what the problem is. My Aloha support person has a very simple solution, buy a new pc and use it as a server and use the current pc as the office pc! Well, I think not!

The only thing I might have done wrong could have been the Sharing of the C: Drive. I disabled it but it is now fully shared with the Term users. I have tried the manual steps I found in another thread to recover the fileserver but that did not work.

Any help would be appreciated.

Server rebooting is one thing, not being able to register station name sounds like a DHCP or LANA network problem to me. Is the CTLSVR.EXE service running on the server, and if not does it let you start it? Is the drive shared with the name BOOTDRV? All the info you should need will be in the ALOHA\TMP directory in the DEBOUT files.

You hit the nail on the head! I had reached the same conclusion after comparing the variables on all three terms with the server.

My action of disabling the filesharing and re-enabling it defaulted the sharename to "c" instead of BOOTDRV.

Hope this helps some one else as well :)
