Hello -

I normally use Parrallel TM-88's and config them as windows printers, however I purchased a new TM-88IV serial and am having trouble with aloha.

The com port is configed properly and the Dip switches as-well as I can set it up as a windows printer and it works fine. When I try and use it under Aloha as soon as Aloha boots it begins printing garbage characters and wont stop., I've tried playing with the Dip switches to no avail and looking at the Hex dump, but it just seems to get garbage sent to it from Aloha

I have the right TM-80 printer selected in my BOH printers dialog.

Anyone know what I need to do to get it to work directly with Aloha and not as a windows printer?

As an aside does anyone know how to get a printer configed as a windows printer to fire the cash drawer? For my parallels, I set up two printers in the BOH using the LPT1, one that prints (windows printer) one that fires the drawer (configed in Aloha to use LPT1).

Thanks

Initially, I would make sure the Dip switches are set correctly, and it sounds like they are. The only other time I have seen this garbage print out is when I have accidentally plugged the printer into the COM port that the touchscreen driver is installed on.

Tmt-88IV's need a firmware flash to fix your problem. Do a self test and your version should be 10.02. If not go to your reseller and get it flashed for you.

I actually have the same problem with my TMIII, not just the IV...

Dip switches are correct in that the printer works fine as a windows printer...

MrBrent is correct. The 88IV setup as a non windows printer must have that .02 version. It is an intermittent kind of problem. Sometimes it will work and sometimes it will not if it is the 10.0.0 version.

... or just buy a parallel interface and change the interfaceboard.

I still DO think it's a dipswitch problem. The TM88 III definitely works with Aloha, that's all we've sold for the last 3 or 4 years since it came out.

What squence of switches are you using?

The TM IV has version 10.02. I have the same issue with both the TMIII and the TMIV. The dip switches are Switch 1, 7&8 ON, everything else is OFF. Can Aloha only communicate with it at 9600? Right now it is at 38000 8-N-1, hardware flow control.

I would love to buy the Parrallel board, but the holes in my slate counter can't be drilled large enough to run parrallel connectors through. If anyone has an adapter that would allow a CAT5 to Centrix that would work, but I have never seen anything, only one custom cable that had a disconnect in the middle, but it cost $150.

Thanks

Well, then I may have good news for you. The switches we've used for those printers on that bank are 3,5,6,7. Very different from what you have setup. On some printers that emulate the EPSON, we've had to use 3,5,6,8.

I have less experience with the IV, and may have been inclined to think this was an issue I hadn't faced yet. But you say you're having the problem with a TMIII. And I have been using TMII' and III's and Aloha for years, and have never had that problem.

Try that, I think they might fix your problem. Also, sorry to point out the obvious-but make sure you have the proper printer set up for that terminal on the bach office as well.

Alohaakamai -

Thank you! That fixed it, I assumed that Aloha would communicate at whatever my COM port was set to, turns out it needs to be 8-E-1 9600 Xon/Xoff, which is what the DIP switch settings above reference. It does print a little slower than when I had it set as a windows printer, but it works and fires the drawer.

THANK YOU!
