I am running Aloha 5.3.43e with heartland as my processor.
I am getting an initializing port error. This is what I see in the debout.edc

Port 443 is open on the firewall.
The setting in the edc.ini is:
IPHost=httpsprod.secureexchange.net

The firewall is a sonicwall tz180 behind a 2wire from AT&T.

any suggestions

Looks like your firewall is blocking the SSL connection. Then EDC tried to rollover to a modem, but couldn't find one.

Either your firewall or that crappy 2wire DSL modem from AT&T is blocking your connection. Sorry, not much more we can suggest at this point.

We have battled this problem for quite some time and have not found a permanent resolution. As far as we can tell, if the internet even hiccups a little, you will get this error.

Megabyte is correct that it is trying to fail over to a modem and cannot find one. This is the case if you don't use backup modems.

I think Paymentech now has a flag that tells it not to try to failover, in part due to all the noise we made about this issue. Unfortunately, we don't use it because we switched processors after they made the change - plus it doesn't really solve the initial problem.

You should be able to try it a few times and get it to go through. If it continues to do this and refuses to settle, look for other issues with connectivity and mention it here. I think ONCE we had one of these that wouldn't go away and we found it was a different problem but I don't remember what it was and would have to research it.

The only way to really test would be to turn on debug for EDC via the aloha.ini:

DEBUGEDC=TRUE
DEBUGEDCSVR=TRUE

This will show a full trace of the communication and where it is failing. If you don't troubleshoot EDC trace's it's a bit confusing at first. Don't post the EDC debout from debug as it will show too much info to post on the internet.

Now, the EDC piece of Aloha is now modular and there has been many improvements with the SSL piece of processing. -For example, I am using 6.2.18 of POS and EDC 6.4.8 and higher.

Try bypassing the Sonicwall firewall and ensure the 2wire has a DMZ set for the port/Ip that the sonicwall connects to. Sonicwall's are good products but their config is alot tougher to work with than Checkppoint or Juniper boxes.

Not much else I could suggest unless I saw your debug debout's, and at this point, Don't want the responsibility of seeing that much of your credit card info unless I'm being contracted.
