Aloha: Database not current

Sometimes I really hate Aloha.

Customer's data was trasfered over to a new file server. When Aloha was reinstalled on the new server, I was 99% the same version was used (5.236). Most of the days of business thus far (there have been about 5) have been fine. But on Saturday morning, they had what appeared to be a corrupt transaction log. However, after attempting a repair on the log and then trying to grind, I am getting a "database not current" error message. The weird thing is, I am getting this error message even when I try to regrind dates of business that have already seem to be ground and reporting properly.

Does anyone know whats causing this?

Thanks!

Unregister services, do a dbconfig from the bin folder on both data and newdata, then restart services, maybe even reboot.

Bo,

Do I need any paramters when using the dbconfig in BIN? I am not famiiar with how this utility is used.

For example, aloha\bin\dbconfig.exe /data ?
aloha\bin\dbconfig.exe /newdata ?

I am guessing I can not do this when they're open? I know unregistering the services will temporarily shut it down, but I am wondering if upgrading the db is the best thing to do during a day of business. Or dies it not matter?

Thanks!

You just go into the bin floder and launch it from there, you may not be upgrading them since you say the version didn't change but rebuilding the index files to work out any kinks that may have gotten "boogered-up". But be sure to select the check box force version upgrade, and consider doing it before they open if you think there might be some negative effects.

This may or may not help, but ran into a similar issue today that turned out to be a syntax error. When I regrinded a subfolder I got the database version error. What it was, was when I ran the grind from the run line I forgot to use the /date then a space in front of the dated folder.

x:\aloha\bin\gind.exe /date 20051212

Not long ago, I had a grind problem I couldn't resolve. The system would grind manaully, but would not do it automatically, and needed to be done every day by the owner every AM. In true "work around " fashion, I decided to write a VB script that would automatically excute the the grind command after EOD. In doing so, I originally screwed up the date formatting, so the date was coming something like 2005129 instead of 20051209. It was then I learned that you got the "database not current" error whenever the directory did not exist (or as you say, when the syntax was correct).

Anway, I was also aware that this could be the problem--but when I asked the tech who was working with the guy about specifics, they said the guy helping on the other end was "pretty good at following instructions." So, I put it in the back of mind, figuring a
"typo" was a long shot, and wishful thinking... but when I got there today, the grind ran fine. On each and every dated sub I tried it on... so you be the judge :)
