How do I set this up?
I want it so the kitchen can see all items that are ordered when they first get the ticket...but then the servers can fire the courses later. Either verbally or better yet through aloha. any ideas?
thanks in advance.

Just make an item or items called "FIRE .." that prints in kitchen to any or specific printers.
Place on a submenu
Open table select fire then order

FIRE
FIRE APP
FIRE COURSE1
FIRE MAIN
FIRE DESSERT

Cool good idea
also then is there a way to have a course button like the seat button that will separate the various courses out on the ticket in a very easy manner.

You could use priority printing.
There is an option in Printing chits
to separate by priority and print line.
all items have priority setting.

You would set your all your apps at 1 priority
entrees at another etc....

When using priority priting....
If you set the apps to priority #1 and the entrees at say Priority #3 what happens when diner wants an app as entree?
Does the app print in P#1 group with a modifier underneath that displays "as entree"?

Consider "course lines" when servers order all items at once.
IE:
1 App
1 App
*** COURSE ***
1 App
1 APP
*** COURSE ***
1 Entree
1 Entree

To order the next course we use a "FIRE TABLE" button so the server does not have to make a trip to the kitchen but we could verbally fire the order as well. This method works well because it eliminates the need for an "as app" or "as entree" modifier. It also removes inherit problems some POS systems have with priority or group printing.

With a PUB style menu, we often get 3 courses on orders as described above.

In version 6 there is a course feature.
You enter all your items .
Then select items for course 1 .press course1
Then select items for course 2 press course 2.
etc....

If you use Priority printing and
have an APP as entree you would select
a modifier "as Entree" which would change priority
of App to Entree priority.

I don't use priority printing so I am unsure of specifics.
But I would think you set "as Entree" to same priority
as the Entree.

It would be something similar if you ordered an Entree
as appetizer.

Hopefully your dealer should be able to help you set this up.
It takes a little thought but works.

I do use the course feature with pivot seating and item priority.

With the course feature you can sort by priority
then select courses.
Makes it easy for servers to select items and course.
But this is a fine dining so pace is a little slower.

Priority printing is nice/fast and servers don't have to think.

But as stated it really depends on your menu and what people normally order .
You may have to experiment on slow periods.
