I am running Aloha 6.5.23 and had a power outage yesterday. There was an error when the system came back up with the trans.log. I ran the fixlog app on the data but it still had problems. I ran the fixlog with the debug feature and it has to do with someone being clocked in more than 10 times. I don't know how to remove this from the trans.log to restore the data. In order to get the system up and running again I had to insert a base trans.log file. I know have the terminals up and EOD ran with the blank trans.log. I have the badtrans.log file and would like to recover the data. How do I go about doing that?

1st make a backup of all the trans.log files. I would try to combine the two log files. then drop them into copy /b badtrans.log + trans.log godtrans.log. rename the goodtrans.log file and drop it into the dated subdirectory. from the dated subdirectory in dos:

..\bin\grind /fixlog goodtrans.log
then rename the fixed.log file to trans.log
ren fixed.log trans.log
then grind the date
..\bin\grind /date 201301??
exit from dos
exit

run your reports
if no sales then you will need to get a dealer to fix your trans.log file unless I can figure out the trans.log reader program posted on this site earlier.

Also don't forget the mirror.log file. It is created from the trans.log file during a crash. you maight try to find it and rename it to the trans.log file and merge it with your partial day log file.

Welcome to the world of Aloha trans.log's

good luck

Coorsman,

I've gone through all of those steps and there is still an error when it tries to grind the combined trans.log file. I really don't want to have to send this file over to the the local Aloha support guys. We were able to piece most the day back together so it's not a huge deal, but if anyone has the software to repair this file, where could I get it.

Thanks,
Evan

Contact me here if you want it repaired. There's some guys that will do it for free for you, some people just like the challenge.
