Greetings all,
I'm in need on some help setting up an Ithaca 280 printer with Aloha. I've tried several ways to try and make it work.
When I try to set it up directly selecting Epson or Star printer type it doesn't work when I set the Ithaca to the corresponding emulation modes. When Aloha enters main screen after launching the printer just continually prints small bits of "trash" text. Changing baud rates and emulation modes didn't help. It's always been this way for me with Ithaca printers so I was left with the other two options I'm used to and that's making it work through either OPOS or Windows Printer.
With OPOS it works, but the print speed is not that good, but not as bad as with the Windows Printer delay. On the other side, Windows Printer can be fast depending what I choose in the "Windows Printer Type" field at the bottom. If I select Windows Printer on both fields, the printer is very slow when Aloha sends a print job after closing a ticket. Printing anything or a test page from Windows itself is fast, but through Aloha there's a delay of about 7-8 seconds to begin printing the receipt. Once it begins it is fast as usual... but that wait is too long. If I select Epson-TM80 in the "Windows Printer Type" field there's no delay, but the no cash drawer opens.
That's the major problem I am facing. The client is using DELL desktop and not the usual register with a cash drawer port. He connects his cash drawers to the cash drawer printer interface port . He wants it this way for all his stores. When both fields have "Windows Printer" selected the cash drawer does opens, but there's the delay. When I choose Epson-TM80 option it is as fast as ever, however it seems this option does not take into consideration the settings indicated in the Windows Printer settings to fire the cash drawer.
I was starting to think that delay had something to do with Aloha itself being the culprit. It prints so fast otherwise outside of it and it is the only thing preventing me from delivering the client with a fast printing solution that also supports the cash drawer functionality. I've tried a lot of things. Changed settings with the FIFO buffers and baud rates, enabled "Print directly to printer", checked if there were any dip switches (which I didn't see), tried firing the cash drawer through OPOS as well but doesn't work through if Windows Printer interface is selected.
In short, I've been at it for weeks now. Maybe someone more knowledgeable with Aloha can advise what is the proper way to set up an Ithaca Printer with Aloha. I read a lot of guides to do it with Epson, but not one with Ithaca which has made it harder for me to find more information on the matter. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
