Greetings,

Does anyone here have any experience with Alltel DSL? The reviews on are not very favorable. But other than expensive satellite, Alltel is the only game in town where I live. I also have Alltel local phone service. Any reviews would be appreciated. Thanks.

I work with a few customers in rural south Georgia who are using Alltel DSL for their bandwidth and have heard good and bad. The bad is the initial setup and installation due to misinformation and problems from the ordering process where the marketing reps selling the service have no IP knowledge and can't answer basic networking questions concerning the routers or modems that the customer needs to order. The good has been that once the service is up and running I haven't heard alot of complaints concerning downtime. Remember these are rural areas with not a huge amount of traffic so I don't think there is a problem with overworking the DSLAMs yet. Hope this helps a little.

As a business owner using Alltel DSL I would say that they usually don't have many problems. I have been down 3 times over 1 1/2 years. Two of Three times were a bad Speedstream DSL modem. The other time they needed to reboot the card. My only beef with them is this last time I was down for THREE DAYS! I can't afford that time frame running a business. I kept getting the run around and told I should buy into the better service plan...yet no one there knows about any other plans! I was down from Sunday this week until Wednesday night. They brought me a new modem and go figure it had a bad ethernet port, so we had to reconfigure the old one to hold us over. Not happy. I should (better) have today (Friday) a brand new one delivered next day air. This down moment has by far been my worst. The biggest problem I see is that they don't have enough people who understand the DSL and the solutions to resolve the problem. It was more than 12 hours before anyone was even assigned to look at my problem. I could go on, but I won't. Ultimately though, they are MUCH BETTER than when I had a circuit with Ameritech. They always put the blame on everyone else, even though the ISP could tell them what was wrong on their end. I would take the Alltel DSL.
