I want to append text to fields on a document when a user presses a button on the action bar. The code I have written is in lotusscript and the code cannot edit the fields when users have less than 'editor' access rights.

Is it possible for users with only 'author' access rights or less to run code that will update these fields?

If not, is there any other way to keep a record of people who click the action button and associate it with each document?
Thanks very much in advance.

You can try this but no guarantee's. You can add the replica ID of the database to the ACL with editor rights. I do this to give macro access from one db to another. I'm just not sure if it will work on the same db or if it will be superceeded by the user's own ACl level.

As for capturing who clicked you can grab the V3Username during the click event, and store it in a hidden field.
