Allowing application macros to email through exchange 2010

I have some apps that use macros. In the macro we specify the smtp server. When I specify there the 2003 server, the Macros' emails go through just fine but when I change the smtp to 2010 server, the macros' emails fail.
I created a receive connector that allows my network devices to send email -like fax, copiers and that works. I added the ip addresses of the machines that use the macros but nothing goes through.
What did I miss?

Specify the receive connector to allow anonymous?
Test it?
Check the SMTP logs?
