We are running Windows 2003 server (cluster) with SQL 2000 Enterprise (cluster). We have 4GB of RAM. I'm getting a little confused over the 3Gb switch, the AWE and the PAE. If we want SQL to be able to use 4GB of RAM (setting SQL to dynamically use what it needs when needed), do I have to use first use the 3Gb switch in the boot.ini file, then the PAE switch then the AWE in SQL? It doesn't seem like a simple change.

That is correct. All three must be set.

It's not a simple change.

Don't forget that after changing the boot.ini you have to reboot the SQL Server.
