Hello, this is my first post but I have been browsing for a while and thanks for all the great help! I have recently taken over as the network admin so I'm still learning.
The server at work is Windows Server and Exchange 2000 with Veritas Backup Exec and Mcafee.
This morning all the Word .doc files in the Marketing folder were modified at 7:50 AM and all of them were 0 bytes and when I tried to open a file, it would ask me to install the Word converter. I did, but it just opened up a blank document. The other files in the folder seem unaffected. The Marketing folder is on the same drive as other folders, but they were unaffected. Only the files and subfolders of Marketing were affected.
I am assuming this is a virus but I dont understand why Mcafee did not detect this.
I can restore the files, but I'd like to know why and how this happened.
So, how do I find and destroy the virus?
Thanks in advance!
