Greetings,

On Friday we got notice that our receptionist will not be returning to work today, Monday. We're at a loss without somebody answering the phones and I need a way to tell the phone system to ring at everybodies desk. I tried to do primary cover on all the phones in the back; but it won't let me have any more than 5 or 6 primary covers for an extension. What do you suggest I do?

Currently we have all POTS lines coming into our system. They ring at the operator, extension 10, and she then farms them out. Since we are without a receptionist for the time being I want everybody to have their phone ring. I've already programmed Direct Voicemail transfers and the like on the extensions.

All you need to do is program each phone you want to ring - to immediate ring. Rigfht now they are all set to "no ring". You can do this at each phone - or thru centralized programming. Get into extension programming, press any line button, select "ring options" from the list of features, select all lines, select immediate ring

Quite odd, I do not have this feature. I am on a Merlin Legen version 7.0. I went into System Programing -> Extensions and I don't see anything about line ringing and pressing a line button just makes the phone beep obnoxiously.

That's not where it is - you need to either program each phone - from the phone using extension programming (like you would use to program a feature button - or through centralized programming using the operator console.

I am doing everything from the operators console.

Can you give me the exact steps?

if you are on a key system ( lines show onall phones )
the phones you want to ring, feature )) touch any line button *347
if you do not see lines onyour phone then you need to add the line pools to the phones
menu
system prog
exit extensions
lines & trunks
enter extension # , you will see a red light ( which will tell lines assign to main pool, touch any red light , see them all go red /green
exit next station
when you go back to normal at the extension you programed
your pool button will be the first after your sa ext
if you do a feature 00 & touch that butto n it will say pool -I ring or you can program
*37 Ring
*36 Delay Ring
* 35 N Ring

At the oprtaor phone, press menu, sys program, exit or start, more, cntr-Prog, program Ext, enter an extension#, all the line buttons will light up red, press anyone of them, press ListFeature, more, more, more, press RingOptions, press all lines, press immediate ring, enter - then do the rest of the extensions you want to ring.

Your other option is to replace the receptionist with a voicmail system autoattendant - which would answer your calls and route them to appropriate extensions - otherwise you will have a very noisy office. When you get a new recetionist, the voicemail system could serve as a backup when she fqails to show up or is out-to-lunch.
