On a Hipath V4.0 I have a strange issue. Originally found could not run commands due to all partitions in DEFECT status. Performed CHA/ACT DSSM to restore and within 5 minutes it was back in defect. Started to deactivate partitions one at a time and find that if AREA F is left deactivated all is well. All other partitions remain in service with no issue. I performed a STA-INIT on AREA F and activated it. System remains running with no issue. LOGBK files are created/written. C-FBTHIST and C-FBTXTRA are created. System will run with these files and no problems. When attempting to STA-HISTA all goes bad again. Entire disk goes to DEFECT status. I have tried restarting the A1 and get the same results. Everything is OK with AREA F deactivated but the system should not be left in this state since you cannot capture any errors. I find it hard to believe that I have a hardware issue since all other partitions and Unixware remain in service. The LOGBK will remain functioning also as long as the STA-INIT is performed on AREA F and no other file manipulations are attempted. So the system is writing to LOGBK on AREA F without issue. Anything else on AREA F appears to be offlimits as this triggers the DEFECT status. Any ideas??

This is the result:

REG-HISTA;
H500: AMO HISTA STARTED
ADD-HISTA: 2000,DEACT ;
ACTIVATE-HISTA:DEACT ;
CHANGE-HISTA:STALARM,DEACT ;

All is ok with that, I assumed that it would not work.

If it was me at this stage I would do a full REGEN, a logical backup of UW7
Create a new hard disk
run in the REGEN
restore the logical backup of UW7
put in latest loadware, hot fixes and uw7 patches.

If one area has failed then it is likely that the rest will fail in time.
