We run an online program that processes a lot of mail. We currently have 1 webserver and 3 mailservers. We use the webserver to continually pass mail to the 3 mailserver qmail queues. We have customized qmail with 500 incoming and outgoing connections. We are able to keep all the mailserver busy and the queue will build on each of of them if we send mail to that particular queue, but we can't seem to get all the connections open at once. We could have 1million emails in a queue and we would still only be running about 1-2 hundred processes instead of 500.
I have also noticed as the queue is receiving mail the outgoing processes will get lower.
We have a machine with enough resources to handle the job so that is not the issue.
Does anyone have any suggestions of what we could check out to be able to have 500 incoming and 500 outgoing processes similtaniously so we can do our best to keep the queues clear.
Thanks,
Mike
