Trying to add an extension to a norstar system. ALL buttons come up with line 1, the top programmable buttons, the release button and the feature all give me dial tone. Put set on another line works OK. ext 240 and 241 act the same way. Tried copy set to no avail.

Sounds like Line 1 button or a Pool button is stuck inward on the trouble set, try to wiggle it free.

"Put set on another line works OK"

Did you mean you put it on another port or another jack?
"line" is what comes from the street that gives you dial tone.

Put phone on a working extension and phone worked OK.

An Extension is a DN of a phone....Directory Number

"Did you mean you put it on another port or another jack?"

You may need to disconnect the cable from the port and test phone right at the port (on the Phone System) to see if a cable issue (which I doubt).
It maybe a bad port.
Does another phone work in the problem jack?

On another port (dn) same problem, phone works on an existing dn.

Let me try to explain to you again...

A DN is the Ext # of the phone, it is not hardware!!
A port is what you connect the cable with jack too.
A jack is what you plug your phone into

"On another port (dn) same problem"
You mean "on another port same thing"

"phone works on an existing dn"
This makes no sense, I dont even know what you mean by this.

How about this....stop worrying about the DN #, if the phone works elsewhere in your office then call in a tech to troubleshoot the port and jack.
If same the problem follows the phone no matter where you plug it into then replace the phone or do as I said above.

Best you call in a tech if still an issue.

Seems you are a tech....maybe confusion with DN vs TN?
You labelled yourself as a (TechnicalUser) instead of Programmer.

DN = Directory Number (or ext number)- DN is software and changeable
TN = Terminal Number (as you know already) - TN is hardware and also a Port

Hope that helps
