all applications opening with notepad

all my applications i.e media plyer,nero,winamp.... are opening with notepad.could anyone help me with my problem and tell me what to do

malleshjadhav, go to "Folder Options" -> "File Types" and see what apps. ae associated with the programs...

Use Registry Editor to view and modify the following registry key:


HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\Exefile\Shell\Open\Command
Check the registry string value:
The correct string for this value is:

"%1" %*

Make sure the registry key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Exefile\Shell\Open\Command is a "%1" %* string value.


As to why this would suddenly start opening with Notepad, you have had some corruption of the Registry during a dodgy install or uninstall. Or much worse, you are infected with some virus.

I think linney might be on the right track, i remember a friend having a virus a couple of years back that did this.
