Hello!

I've got my qmail setup with fastforward. My problem is that when sending an email manually (telnet server 25, HELO server.com, etc. etc.) to an alias it forwards over to my groupwise server perfect. As soon as I unleash the flood gates and outside internet email starts to email the aliases, they never make it even though the "manual way" mentioned above still works. What am I doing wrong?

Outside email that isn't addressed to an alias makes its way over to the groupwise server just fine. I've noticed that if I send an email to the alias@localserver.domain.com the alias will make it to groupwise provided that the localserver.domain.com is in the rcpthosts file. I want the alias@domain.com to work.
My /var/qmail/control files are listed below:

/var/qmail/control/me: (localserver is the server that qmail resides on)
localserver.domain.com

/var/qmail/control/locals:
localserver.domain.com

/var/qmail/control/defaultdomain:
domain.com

/var/qmail/control/plusdomain:
domain.com

/var/qmail/control/rcpthosts:
domain.com

/var/qmail/control/smtproutes: (groupwise is the Novell groupwise server)
domain.com:groupwise.domain.com

/var/qmail/alias/.qmail-default: (saw something in the faq that said to give the full path to fastforward)
| /var/qmail/bin/fastforward -d /etc/aliases.cdb

/etc/aliases example:
testdist: GWuser1@domain.com, GWuser2@domain.com

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Steve

Solution for the archives...

> and I need to have all other non-local user email forward over to another smtp server.

I setup .qmail-default with the following:
| forward $LOCAL@groupwise.domain.com

then I created aliases (non fastforward, didn't end up needing it like I had originally thought) in the form of .qmail-<insert alias name here>
Keep in mind that an alias with a period (steve.fouchek) needs to be converted to .qmail-steve:fouchek which forwards over to sfouchek (username on groupwise side).
Example:
/var/qmail/alias/.qmail-steve:fouchek contents are: sfouchek

Examples of control files....
/var/qmail/control/rcpthosts: (I am sure that there is redundance here, but it works!)
LOCALHOST
server.domain.com <--your qmail server
domain.com
groupwise.domain.com <--groupwise internet agent server
groupwise

/var/qmail/control/locals:
LOCALHOST
server.domain.com
domain.com

/var/qmail/control/defaultdomain & plusdomain:
domain.com

/var/qmail/control/me:
server.domain.com

Good luck!
Thank you to the one person that did offer help and thank you to Dave Sill's qmail Handbook.

I'm in the exact same situation as you were Steve, but for the life of me I can't get it to work the way you did. I've tried all the steps that you laid out with no success...what am I doing wrong? Were there any other minor tweaks that you had to perform? Any advice would be appreciated. Let me know what information you might need and I will provide it for you

Thanks,
Schmag
