Forgive my Apache ignorance, I'm trying to help solve a problem with which I am only somewhat involved. WinNt Server. We have Apache set up on one server \\server1. Under aliases we have an alias for a directory /bzy_cad/ c:ideas/data, that works fine when you browse to it, but if I try to access another server (\\server2 mapped as F:) using /bzy_cad2/ f:/ideas/shared, I get a forbidden error message. Would UNC pathnaming work instead? Any help is appreciated.

mapping a drive doesn't seem to work, because if you run a net use trhough a server side script it doesn't have your mapped drives... unless there's some way to map the drive as system?

UNC paths don't seem to work as apache (I'm running version 2.x) decides to use the drive which apache.exe is installed on if no drive letter is specified.

The second behavior is documented well, the first I'm not sure... but it becomes clear when you a) read the error logs and b) run a net use through a server side script.

So having said all of that, I can't believe there's anything IIS can do that Apache can't, so somebody, please help here, I'm having the same problem and can't get it to work!

And the answer is.........

Manage your services, and change it such that Apache logs in as a user. Then go ahead and use all the UNC paths you'd like.

Note: use //machine/path not \\machine\path

Hope it's not too late!
