Is there any way I can create an alias in Windows 2003 DNS server to point to a DFS share? Or any way of getting around this?
I know it probably seems almost like a step backwards ... but I want to create a primary zone in each of our sites which will be just aliases. I want to create the same records in each site (eg localserver01.madeupdomain.com which will point to site01server01.realdomain.com) so that I can then point our policies (for folder redirection, application assignment etc) to the alias and they will always get their files from the local server. But some of our larger offices have DFS shares setup for redundancy - so how can I point these aliases to the DFS shares?
