I found the solution to using an alias with a referring mailbox on the mail server, and "can't delete unlinked files" error. Unchecking the "check mail" in the alias' personality properties solved the problem. Thanks to uvguy (Programmer) for the help.
Next problem: When I get a message to the alias, for example, "keys@domain" it arrives. But when I click on "Reply" the "From:" header reverts to the vectored name, in this case, "mrkeys@domain."
What I want is for any outgoing message to scan the recipient as being the alias name (keys@domain), then to automatically assign outgoing replies as coming "From:" that same alias name (keys@domain).
Instead, any click on the Reply button produces a quoted response, and the From: line has reverted to the mrkeys@domain sender...the primary name on the mail server.

[li]I've tried all the filter criteria, where TO: contains keys@domain, or FROM: contains it, or <AnyHeader> contains it. None of it seems to automate the change in the reply "From:" line. It always reverts to the master name--the "mrkeys@domain."[/li][/ul]

[li]I've created custom filters for specific messages from a particular person who I want to see me as the alias. Incoming messages from, for example, "john@hisdomain." That doesn't do it either. [/li][/ul]
I understand how to click a response, then Message > Change > Personality, but I don't want to have to remember this every time I respond out of the aliased personality. Am I missing something? Is a filter supposed to work when I hit the Reply button? If anyone knows, or I've been unclear on the problem, let me know. Thanks...Craig
