Alerts on Sharepoint not working - deleted

Hello everyone,

I am experiencing, I guess very unussual , problem with Alerts. None of them is working - I tried with few lists and libraries.

What might have happened is that I deleted this option when purging site from "unnececary" content in View All Site Content option.

Please advice how to make Alerts work.

are your outgoing email options configured in central admin?
