Alert notification via MS Exchange not working

Hi,
I am having a problem getting arcserve alert notification to work, what i am trying to do is have email alerts of backup failures.
However at the moment it ain't working! It fails with the error "Failed to send email (1314}".

I have the alert manager running under a service account with the exchange profile setup for that same account (i can browse the GAL via the alert notification manager).

Any suggestions??
