Alert Manager - failed to send email

We are trying to set up email alerting in Arcserve. We have set up an exchange account, and nt login. Tested the account in outlook - ok. But in alert manager the following error appears in the log: -

failed to send test email (-2147219963)

I have made the nt account act as part of the os and login as service

Any ideas?
