Hi All

SPS2003 with a separate sql2005 backend.

Got an email server set of ex-dev2. SPS box is ex-dev4. I can telnet on 25 to ex-dev from the sps box. I can telnet on 25 from ex-dev to the other exchange servers in the org.

says ..You might see a message like 'The server response was not available' or 'The message could not be sent to the SMTP server'. The most likely cause is that the SMTP server needs to be configured to allow message routing from your SPS box.

Now I assume that means relaying so I'm going to allow relaying for the IP address of the SPS box.

The system log on SPS is clean. In the app log I'm getting:

Event ID 3036

The content source < cannot be accessed.

Context: Application, Portal_Content Catalog

Details:
Error in the Site Data Web Service. (0x80042616)

Anyone got any ideas on why I'm not getting my alerts. Where to look in the logs would be a start I guess.

Thanks.

Sorry the other thing I should mention
is that another admin had changed my service a/c password I'd changed it everywhere in sharepoint/app pool/services that i could think of but this maybe a factor.

Fixed the Event ID 3036 by giving my service a/cs more rights on the sql server.

There's now no sharepoint errors in the event logs.

But I go to do a Portal Content update I get:
1/8/2007 1:10:00 PM Modify sts2://ex-dev4/webid=000/
The address could not be found, (0x80042616 - Error in the Site Data Web Service. )

suggests that it was a problem with having .net 2.0 on the server. SPS2003 only likes .net 1.1

SQL and SPS boxes are showing asp.net 1_1_4322 and 2_0_50727.

Anybody know how to tell which dotnet and Service Pack SPS2003 is running on?
