Hi all,

This morning our receptionist informed me that her phone said "Alarm 75." There were two option - "Time" and "Clear." When she pushed "Time" it said 4/14/2010 08:55 (keep in mind it still isn't 8:55 here EST). When she pushes "Clear" it goes away.

What is this alarm business or am I going to quickly find out in the next few minutes at 8:55?

Thanks in advance!

Looking at the phone system's time, it was probably 8:55 on her phone when she received it.

Alarm 75 means the PRI clock was in free run. If it continues, check with your carrier. Make sure too that no one is messing with the patch cords on the BCM. I had one IT guy about a year ago, take the PRI patch cord away from the BCM because he needed one himself and was too lazy to get his own. He won't do that again after the bill the customer got for us responding to an emergency call!

Anyway, you could also go into the system and remove the alarm DN.

Thanks telcodog.

I'm unfamiliar with what you mean by the PRI clock was in free run. Could you explain what that is?

The clocking for the PRI has to be set to Primary External for the digital trunking to work correctly. Assuming this system has been installed for some time means that it's probably set correctly. If the clocking signal is lost for any reason, the system reverts to clocking from itself and is referred to as being in "free run". The usual culprit is the carrier and as long as it comes back (reasonably quickly), there's nothing to worry about unless it continues to occur. If you get that alarm a lot I would contact the carrier and arrange for some testing and check to see what the BCM setting is to be sure.
