I just wrote a simple FAQ in the asp.net forum if any one is interested...

Man everytime I look at ASP & VBScript code, I think I'm lucky to know XHTML/PERL/JavaScript! - lol

I'm sure it will help someone, thanks for sharing.

You're especially lucky if you happen to be WORKING with those languages. I know PERL, but happen to be required to work with ASP/VBScript at my current job. I'd MUCH rather be working with PERL.

Ah, you see I was in the perfect position, the only person in the IT department, so I get to choose what language our web apps are developed in.

I taught myself PERL with the help of TT, for my hobby music site (awaiting your comment TS ;-) ) and so decided to stick with it for my day job.

I have had to learn VBA as the DB here is MS Access and I've had to do a few lines of code for our standard website in ASP to get some dynamic content from the DB.

But my heart is with PERL, I love it! and the TT PERL community are a great bunch as well, which is god send!

I envy you. I taught myself PERL many years ago. I got the chance to choose PERL for my server-side language on my last job and got very good at it. You can probably still find some of my old postings in the PERL forum here if you do a search. I was MVP in that forum more often than not when I was active in it. Unfortunately that was 4 or 5 years ago and I haven't had the chance to use it since then. Last time I was between jobs I taught myself PHP thinking that might be useful, but at my current job it is all VBScript on the server and VB for other development. I really don't like VBScript! It's a pain in the behind, and just different enough from normal VB to be very confusing. At least I still get to use my JavaScript.

asp is a lot different than asp.net, and vbscript is a lot different than vb.net. The .net framework makes all the difference. When Atlas (with the 3.0 framework) comes out it will even be easier to work with AJAX (no more need to do client-side coding).

Thanks for the comments.
