Hey folks I have noticed on my AIX 5 Box that there is a file under /var/tmp which is named aixidb.log that appears to just keep growing in size as well as hostmidb.log. I found referance to the hostmidb.log on IBM Web site & there is an APAR on it (IY35474) but I cant seem to find anything about the aixidb.log file. Does anyone by chance knwo what these are & how they are actually used in the system. Trying to figure out how to keep them from growing & eating /var file system & also what uses them & if it can be turned off?

Log is used by the AIX Enterprise Management Information Base (MIB) extension
subagent, for use with the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) version 3
agent, that collects data from system for variables defined in the AIX
Enterprise Specific MIB.

hostmibd is started in /etc/rc.tcpip so you can control whether you want to run it by editing that file.

aixmibd is an src and uses the /etc/aixmibd.conf file for its configuration.

Check out the Redbook "AIX 5L Differences Guide Version 5.2" for full details on what these mib files and daemons are use for. The PDF is available at:

I hope this helps you.
