I am trying to delete a user. I edit the passwd file(s) and the user file and remove the user. I go into smit and the user is listed as domain user with an ID number above 1000. Where is AIX finding this information? I list all users and the user is not there. If I try to delete the user with rmuser or in SMIT the program hangs.

You've broken it! Don't touch files in AIX ever.

The user information is in a couple of files in /etc/security. Are you a Linux user? Look in passwd and user files.

If you run `rmuser -p <user>`, what do you get?
