I have been looking What does the SP stand for. I have looked but IBM never defines it. It probably isnt a major thing but it is really bothersome at this point.
Well actually you might have answered it but it was in reference to a job I found online. It stated "AIX SP exp wanted". I wasnt sure what it stood for but I have a lot of AIX exp so I was a bit confused. I looked it up on IBM's site and it also references AIX SP on several new "posts". I wasnt sure If I missed something.
SP is part of the IBM "Scalable Parallel" series of high-performance computers. There is more to know that just AIX in managing and administering an SP complex.
As previously noted, the nodes are housed in frames and are available in thin, wide and high nodes, where each node (which runs AIX) takes up either 1, 2, or 4 slots and each frame has 16 slots available. The frames can be paralleled up to I believe 128 frames, but with IBM consulting they can go beyond this limit.
The power behind the SP complexes are a high-speed SP Switch and the new SP Switch2. Also there is PSSP (Parallel System Support Programs) which provide a suite of applications for the installation, operation, management, and administration of an IBM SP and IBM Cluster 1600 from a single point of control.
