How can I tell if I have AIX Performance Toolbox on my machine. If so , what is the command to see if its running ?

did you mean the perf tools?

lslpp -l |grep perf

would let you know if the filesets are installed.

Also I believe the UI for Perf Toolbox is ptx. If you have that command, you probably have Perf Toolbox installed.

You also might want to load the bos.adt.samples. This will load /usr/samples/kernel - which has the vmtune. Depending on your release of AIX - tuning memory requires this tool. If you are on 5.2 or later - the command is vmo. vmtune was never put into /usr/bin. It is extremely helpful in tuning out paging.
