AIX 4.3.3.0. I have a paging space that I can not activate.
When I attempt to activate it I get a message that requested resource is busy. What do I need to do to activate this paging?

Post output of:

lsps -s
lsps -a

After doing that, we'll know where to go.

Bill.

We rebooted to fix the problem, but I am still interested to see if there is a way to make hd6 paging active without rebooting, here is the out put now:

# lsps -a
Page Space Physical Volume Volume Group Size %Used Active Auto Type
paging02 hdisk2 rootvg 112MB 16 yes yes lv
paging01 hdisk3 rootvg 112MB 16 yes yes lv
paging00 hdisk0 rootvg 112MB 16 yes yes lv
hd6 hdisk1 rootvg 176MB 11 yes yes lv

The only difference yesterday that was under active, hd6 said no, instead of yes.

hd6 should always come up active. It is the default paging space.

It would be difficult to not have hd6 not active. A scenario would be:

1. Set hd6 to not be active at boot
2. Reboot
3. Set hd6 to be active at boot
4. Do not reboot.

This would give the indication that hd6 SHOULD be active at boot, but would currently have it not active.

Bill.

There is a bug somewhere in the maintenance trail of 4.3.3 which is fixed in -09 maintenance. Essentially hd6 is deactivated and will not activate. I encountered this during upgrading from 4.3.1 to 4.3.3, and let me tell you the first time was a surprise since I had no other paging. =)

Assuming you are downlevel, I recommend getting to maint 09.

bro,
also if you dont want to use the hd6 upon booting, there is a procedure to do it. You need to edit the rc.boot and replace the hd6 with your paging space. and then change the sysdumpdev that uses your hd6 as well. the redbook has the procedure...!
