Hi Gurus!

Our system H80 OS 4.3.3 is currently attached to a Symmetrix 8530 via direct attach. My problem is i couldn't identify what volumes i have already used up on the Symmetrix side. Currently, there are sixteen volumes allotted to my H80 but I have only created 14 disk out of the sixteen. How can i identify what volumes on the Symmetrix i am currently using since aix only list the external drives as hdiskXX? No EMC software has been installed on my server. Is there any native command on AIX i could use???

Need your help!

Thanks,
Keune76

lspv

should show 2 unused disks

"none" in 2nd column and "None" in 3rd

PLease clarify:

> only created 14 disks?

What do you mean by that? only used 14 of the 16 disks in VGs? or do you see only 14 out of 16 disks? perhaps you need to run cfgmgr to define the remaining 2.

Try the commands

lsattr -E -l hdiskX
lscfg -vl hdiskX

one or both may also give you info like LUN number or sth. (lscfg does for ESS LUNs)

Hi p5wizard!

I have already tried those commands but it didn't show the info i need. Also, of the allocated 16 disk for AIX, I have already used or mounted the 14 disk and I have 2 unused drives.

Here is what i want to see for clarifications;

for example:

hdisk6 = sym vol 001
hdisk7 = sym vol 002
...
...
... and so on...

I want to identify the used volumes of symmetrix that i have already used/mounted for AIX. Is there such a way without installing EMC SW?

Thanks for your info.

The direct connection, is that fiber or SCSI?

lsdev -Ccadapter|egrep 'fc|scsi'
lsdev -Ccdisk
lspv

please.

The setup is direct-connect.

Still no results that i'm expecting. Can't install the EMC SW since 4.3.3 is no longer supported that is why i'm looking any alternatives on AIX.

Thanks for your inputs, though.

what do you mean emc sw for 4.3.3 I have over 70 systems using aix 4.3.3. and emc software with powerpath

If you display your vg's individually, you can then write down which ones you have used and figure out which ones aren't.

Thank you guys for the inputs! i'll try it first...
