I have a question about mirroring in AIX. I notice when in smit mirrorvg, there is option that says, “Create Exact LV Mapping?” If you select yes, then copies for logical partition cannot share the same physical volume. If you select no, then copies for a logical partition can share the same physical volume. It seems like the obvious option is “yes,” especially if mirroring rootvg and you want one disk to act as a failover. Right?

Thanks,
Shane

This option requires you to specify a PhysicalVolume(s) where the exact map copy should be placed. If the space is insufficient for an exact mapping, then the command will fail. You should add new drives or pick a different set of drives that will satisfy an exact logical volume mapping of the entire volume group."
