i recently bought an rs6k that has a 36gb scsi harddrive.. i would like to play with mirroring .. migrate etc.. do i have to buy an identical 36gb hd to achieve this or by adding a 9gb would do ??? thanks for the help...

It is recommended that you have the same capacity for the mirroring, you should be able to mirror 9GB of the 36GB disk onto another 9GB disk if that is all you have available.

For just playing around with mirroring, any disk will do. Mirroring can be set up for one LV only.

But if your rootvg is not fully mirrored, it probably won't help you in case of a disk crash.

If your rootvg is using less than 9GB (27GB unused space on your 36GB disk), then I guess you can go ahead and mirror rootvg completely with the disks you have.
