Hi,

I've changed two AIX 4.3.3 machines from Token-Ring network environment to ethernet enviroment, but the machine can only see one another and not all the machine on the network.
I'm connecting the AIX boxes to a cisco catalyst 6500, and i just put the same configurations from token to ethernet.

Thanks

hello,

just curious - are they on the same domain? or network? LAN/WAN maybe?

try to check default gateway, too.

hi,
manage two nic in AIX is not easy (users may follow wrong procedure).
Probably there are some configurations still active, and probably you have changed network (from 192.168,1x to 10.4.161.x)

I belive the best i to clear all configuration: follow these steps.

- Shutdown the box, and remove TR adapter
- At machine boot, diagnostic will say you some adapter are missing: directly or using "diag -a" after boot, confirm that device was removed from system.

- smitty inet
Remove a Network Interface
select all devices (one at one shot)
confirm and exit

- cfgmgr

- smitty route
Flushing Routing Table
select all Yes and confirm

- smitty resolv.conf
Remove a Nameserver
(remove all)
Remove the Domain

The cleaning phase il almost finished

- smitty mktcpip
choose en0
complete correctly all field you need
( the name, ipadrr, and netmask are mandatory;
if you need reach address out of net, put your
router addr in Default Gateway, and if you use
a domain, fill also name and addr in NAMESERVER )

- Edit /etc/hosts and make it consistent

99% will go

bye

Thanks for the helps but i figure it out i was configuring the wrong interface i configured et0 insted of en0 and now the machines are working properly. Thanks anyway.

Bye
