I am trying to complete an AIX 5.1 installation using a Serial Terminal. When the system reboots the first time to complete the installation it gives me a login prompt. I enter root, but it just continually gives me the prompt. The system is an H70 and I have been told that you can not complete an installation by default using a serial terminal, but I have been told there is a orcedure to do this. Can someone tell me what it is?

Had the same problem, its a serial port definition which needs to be changed.

Have a look at the questions I have posted last year, you will find the solution there.

Sorry, in a bit of a hurry so I don't have time to hunt it down for you. IBM Certified Confused - MQSeries

adagio,

when you say serial terminal are you referring to lets say a IBM3151 ascii terminal?

I do installs all day long on H50's, H70's, S70's with a IBM3151 without any problems, I can even do GUI installs on those boxes that have a graphics card..

Thanks for the feedback. The main problem turned out to be that TTY wasn't enabled to login and I also added the 'clocal parameter so now alls well.
