AIX email attachment question.

Hi

The attachments (like .xls files) that are send from AIX/unix, are not getting opened on smartphone (like htc,iPhone) !
They are indeed accessible via PC.
But if same attachment is send via gmail (not AIX), it can be opened on smartphone.
Can someone give their opinions about this.
Requirement is to open the attachments, received via AIX, on smartphone.
