I have several AIX Power5 Servers connected to my HMC.
Some are with AIX 5.2 ML4 some are with AIX 5.3.
But I can not do any DLPAR Operation on any of the connected Systems.

I allways get the following ERROR Message:
"There is currently no RMC Connection to the partition"

All other functions seems to work.
I can ping the HMC from the server and the server from the HMC.

Please Help
TIA
Axel

is the Lpar Hostname in the Host File of the HMC and also is the HMC's hostname in the /etc/hosts file of each Lpar? This is important.... Sometimes after adding the Lpar hostnames to the HMC's host file you may need to refresh the TCPIP services or even reboot for the Dlpar menus to become available..

I dotn agree with you FrankieAIX, with power 5 you dont have to put the hotnames in /etc/hosts. Now you cant acces the /etc/hosts of the HMC as you did with power4 hmc. You cant have root acces whith power5 HMC.

There is few points to verify as said by ogniemi (is the RMC daemon runnning on each partion dlpar aware ?....)

A main point is that all the partition wich have to "share" ressources in dlapr mode should have network acces but not by the HMC network.

Most clearly, all the partitions have to be able to ping the others they want to get ressources in dlapr mode.

we have exactely the same problem.
I have 2 partitions which are recognized for DLPAR operation:
# lspartition -dlpar
Give me 2 results.
And 2 which are not working ... (one 52I and one 53Gold+PTFs)

You can check the IBM.DRM and IBM.HostRM deamons which must be active with the command:
# lssrc ... don't remember the option ...

In my case, if we launch this service, nothing says there is something wrong, but the deamon does not appear in the list.
(it appears for the 2 partitions where the DLPAR works).
I don't thing we have a DNS issue since all partitions are defined on the same DNS server.

If you have some ideas.

Gloups,

I was unaware that it was a Power5, I have not yet played with the Power5...

So your saying that the Lpars do not have to communicate to the HMC via network anymore in the Power5??
