I have noticed that the AIX C Compiler and VisualAge C++ compilers now come with the AIX 5.1 install disks.

Does this mean that it's free now? We had to pay license fees for our older version on our AIX 4.3 boxes. It comes with what seemingly is a single user licence file which I entered in the nodelock file of LUM, the compilers seems quite happy with that.

We don't require more than one license, and due to cost saving was looking at gcc as an alternative, but what the heck, if it's free we would prefer to stick to what we know. IBM Certified Confused - MQSeries

Had a bit of a closer inspection, the stuff on the install disks are only the runtime packages, whatever that means.

I have downloaded the VAC++ disks from PartnerWorld for Software, according to the Terms and Conditions page it seems that the single licence for the C++ compiler which comes with the software is granted for use within the business. So hopefully the yearly subscription fee we pay covers this. The AIX C compiler seems to require no license.
