We´re receiving a IBM 660 6H1 in a couple of days.
The dbms it should hold is Progress 9.1
Now we´re wondering what version of AIX we should install.

What are the major differencies between 4.3.x and 5L?
(what does L stand for in AIX 5L?)
Is 5L compatible with progress 9x?
Have anyone tested this setup and run into difficulties?

any insight is appreciated.

thanks in advance. /Sören

IBM Maintains a "binary compatability" statement for AIX executables. This means that a binary compiled for previous versions of AIX _should_ run on subsequest versions. As of 4.3.0.0, there were only 3 program exceptions know by IBM.

I would check with Progress for your question. If it were me, I'd go with 4.3.3 ML8.

Bill.
