Just want a simple instructions:

router is 10.168.1.1 the AIX 6.1 box should be 10.168.1.205

in route table I have default 10.168.1.1 (gateway)I go to smit, tcpip, mimum config & startup
put in HOSTNAME AIX_6
address 10.168.1.205
mask 255.255.255.0
default gateway 10.168.1.205

but it comes out as 8.168.1.205

why... simple in LINUX (did 3 computers) harder in AIX

thanks for input

In route table the default should be its local address - 10.168.1.205
Default gateway should be your router - 10.168.1.1

The 8.x.x.x thing, no idea ;0)

In AIX, refer to "mktcpip" command, ot "smit mktcpip". Before trying to set up, you should turn off the interface to be used for te IP address related to the hosname: "chdev -l enX -a state=detach" - where X is the number ot the en adapter.

Now you should clean up the /etc/hosts file - see if there is some mismatch. Correct if needed.

Then go to "smit mktcpip" and fill the form.

If there are problems yet, you can check the properties if the inet0 device which should contain the default route definition.
