Hi,
Is it possible to install AIX 5.1 on a 7006-410 MCA Server?
Regards,
Roy

AIX5l 5.1 should be installable on all types of RS6K or pSeries hardware.

Try and boot from the first install CD and see if it works.

Hi P5Wizard,
As you suggested, I did, but unfortunately the systems hangs on code 299. When I insert the ol' 4.3.3. disc in the CDROM all goes fine. But the 5.1 disc 'hangs'. On the CD no scratches whatsoever appear, so I presume the CD is fine.

Thanx!

5.1 is NOT installable on all types of hardware, especially an old MCA (micro channel architecture) machine.

A 299 indicates the BLV (boot logical volume) will be loaded. If it passes a 299 and gets a stable 201, then you need to recreate the BLV.

5.2 and later is only installable on CHRP machines

5.1 and earlier should be installable on older type machines (notice keyword should)

However I read in the release notes for 5.1 that not all cdrom drives (especially older types) are compatible with 5.1 - I don't know if you have an option to clone another server's mksysb tape onto your 7006. Or you can hook up another "generic" scsi cdrom to the 7006. That may be worth a try.

Gr.

Hey, that is good news! I suggest I try a NIM install, or hook up an other SCSI drive.

Thanx :)
