We are purchasing a new server. Our old rs6000 ran on AIX 4.3. The new one uses AIX 5.0. Our company will pay for a training session to bring us up to speed on the new OS. If anyone could recommend a class that would cover the greatest procedural differences in moving to this new AIX version, I would be interested in hearing from you.

I would suggest AIX 5L Sys Admin I: Implementation, course code Q1314. I found it covered enough of the differences between 4.3 and 5L to get me started when we went through an upgrade. I would also recommend Sys Admin III: Performance Management, code Q1318, to get the most out of your new system. There are also some very good Redbooks that can help.

Good luck,

System Administration II: Problem determination would be better for you than Performance management.

If you already are proficient in 4.3, I'm wondering if a course in just the differences between the two versions would be a better use of time and money.

IBM has a 5L Implementation Differences course:
And a separate CD on 5L Implementation Differences you can get:

I tend to agree with "bi".

I did my certification a month before we got our first 5.1 server, found the differences between 4.3 and 5.1 weren't that great to warrant a full course in 5.1 Administration.
