i have installed AIX 5.2 ML4 and i'm not able to do mksysb; it fail at begenning with this message.
''The boot image you just created might fail to boot because the size exceeds the system limit. For information about fixes or workarounds, see /usr/lpp/bos.sysmgt/README.''
I have upgraded firmware to last level and applied fixes required on /usr/lpp/bos.sysmgt/README file

have a look with ulimit -Ha and ulimit -Sa
You must be unlimited.

Here's is the résult of ulimit -Sa and ulimit -Ha
I don't see any link with mksysb boot image.
unlimit -Ha

time(seconds) Illimité
file(blocks) Illimité
data(kbytes) Illimité
stack(kbytes) 4194304
memory(kbytes) Illimité
coredump(blocks) Illimité
nofiles(descriptors) Illimité

ulimit -Sa

time(seconds) Illimité
file(blocks) Illimité
data(kbytes) 131072
stack(kbytes) 32768
memory(kbytes) 32768
coredump(blocks) Illimité
nofiles(descriptors) 2000

You can't boot from your mksysb Tape but the backup is ok..

But you can boot from a cdrom or Nim and make the restore of the System in case of disaster

what user is doing mksysb? the user doing mksysb must have ulimit unlimited

mksysb is done by root user.
