Hi,

I have a IBM P520 server and having AIX 5.2 with ML 6 and it has DVD RAM drive. I have confirmed that CD can be readable from DVD RAM drive. This server is basically main TSM server ( TSM 5.3 ). I have confirmed that TSM 5.3 supports AIX 5.2 TL9.

We are upgrading the maintenance level from ML6 to TL9.
I have AIX 5.2 Base media ( 7 CDs ).
I have taken the mksysb of the system.

After that I will put the 1st CD in DVD RAM drive and do smitty update_all.
It will upgrade the ML .
After that reboot the server.

Can someone confiem, whether I am missing anything ?

Thanking you.

Sam

sounds like you're upgrading from install CDs that are at the higher level. that should work, although i have never done it in that manner. you can always go to the fix delivery center

and download the files to a central, nfs mounted directory, OR the host itself and upgrade that way. in this manner you will not have to mount CDs.

you also order the media from IBM, or is that what you're upgrading with?

Thanks Breslau,

For the reply. We asked for TL9, IBM confirmed that it is availble in Base media. Hence we can use the same media to upgrade. Hoping it should work.

In between this, today I was trying to do mksysb and while taking, it returned following warning message on console. Not sure this is just warning or its true that it will not boot from tape.

the message is as follows :-

bosboot: Boot image is 27742 512 bytes block
ATTENTION :
The boot image you just created might fail to boot because the size exceeds the system limit.
For information about fixes or worarounds, see /usr/lpp/bos.sysmgt/README
ATTENTION :

The mksysb is running at this time. Not sure will that create any problem later.

Do you have any idea on this ?

The bootinfo output is as follows :-

# bootinfo -a
3

Thanks Breslau,

Its saying the microcode needs to be upgraded.
So you mean untill and unless I upgrade the microcode for this AIX machine, the mksysb will not be bootable and can't be used during any crysis situation ?

my prtconf is showing as follows :-

System Model: IBM,9111-520
Machine Serial Number: 109334F
Processor Type: PowerPC_POWER5
Number Of Processors: 2
Processor Clock Speed: 1500 MHz
CPU Type: 64-bit
Kernel Type: 64-bit
LPAR Info: 1 10-9334F
Memory Size: 3792 MB
Good Memory Size: 3792 MB
Firmware Version: IBM,SF225_096
Console Login: enable
Auto Restart: true
Full Core: false

It is SF225_096

Thanks ..

Sam
