Hi,

Once we upgraded fron AIX 4.3.3 to 5.2,some stations had to be switched from 100 FULL_DUPLEX to HALF-DUPLEX,otherwise the transfer rate would drop down to 20 KB/sec.

Looks like a driver problem with certain network cards on AIX 5.2 ,versus 3COM switches.

Anybody has similar experience ?

levw,

How are the stations connected to the network? It sounds like some may be connected via half-duplex ports on the hub/switch causing the performance issue. Have you tried using a current full-duplex box on a port for a machine that you had to switch to half-duplex? Are the hub/switches managable, what type/vendor?

I have not encountered this with an AIX machine before but have seen it with win boxes not set to autonegotiate and the switches set incorrectly.

levw,
We have had this problem quite a bit. Make sure that the ethernet cards in the server are set to 100-Full and then make sure the switch/hub ports are set to 100-Full. We have never gotten AIX and Cisco catalyst switches to autonegotiate and you might have a similar problem w/ your 3coms. Forcing the system and network port to the same setting has always fixed the problem.

Thanks,

I our case all AIX boxes were 100-Full on AIX 4.3.3,same ALL ports on the 3-com switch.

Definetly something have changed as of AIX 5.2.
Looks to me like a new ethernet drivers-versus-3com issue.

Apart from fixing the network config to 100Mbps full duplex, you might want to update your firmware level for your network cards as well.Perhaps, 5.2 does have a match level of firmware running. You updated your Os and so us the firmware.

i have not encountered this change on my migrations from 4.3.3-09 to 5.1.0-03, but we all know about the trouble with autonegotiate. perhaps there is something wonky with your upgrade image? personally, this is where i would blame the switch and move along to the next project. =)
