AIX 5.2 and Type 7043-240

Can an RS/6000 Type 7043-240 be upgraded to AIX 5.2?

Yes. I've done it but I believe you need a firmware upgrade.

I updated with the latest microcode from the link above (thanks for the link), however, when I try to install AIX 5.2 and boot from CD1, the LCD is stuck with "F4D".

I suppose then that this hardware doesn't support AIX 5.2.

Version 5.2 withdraws support for all PCI RS/6000 systems based on the PReP architecture and corresponding features including, but not limited to, the following, noting that all notebook support was withdrawn with Version 4.3, as provided in Table 12-5.

Looks like AIX5.1 is the limit for 7043-240

Well, not really. It runs fine on mine and IBM documented this and the firmware upgrade needed for the 43P-240.

Don't give up. I will check my firmware level when I get home.

Sorry, I just noticed that mine is a -260. Apparently two different models. What colour is yours?
